I'm an actual Mexican Citizen now!

So this post is about a month over due, but with so much going on I have just kept putting it off until now. Anyhoo after a long long year of going through three facilitators, two immigration lawyers, and a ridiculous amount of international mail and paperwork I finally have my dual citizenship with Mexico. I am now officially a Mexican citizen and I couldn't be prouder.

It's not something I expected but along with the citizenship came a feeling of belonging and pride to now be fully part of this culture I've never really known, but has always been a part of me. It's hard to explain, its being welcomed home in the land of my ancestors, its the new desire within me to learn the history and practice the traditions, its the pride in my nationality and desire to stand up for my people when I see them mistreated, and its the quiet feeling of peace I now carry knowing that at this moment in time this is exactly where I am meant to be.

Now on to the next hurdle in this process, getting Bridget her temporary residency. Why is it a hurdle you might wonder. Well let me tell you. Its a hurdle because my immigration lawyer moves a lot slower than I'd prefer, and because we now have to get married again in Mexico before Bridget can apply for temporary residency. Because I was not a Mexican citizen at the time of our marriage in Mexico's eyes our marriage does not qualify for her to apply for residency as my spouce. So now she has to remarry me as a Mexican citizen to apply. It's crazy but I get it. Mexico is surprising on top of those kinda details and although it's annoying I respect the hell outta them for it. - Nolan
