Can you have sticker shock but in the opposite way you usually think of? Yes, yes you can. So I had to go see a doctor for the first time here in Puerto Vallarta; it was time to refill my prescriptions. I scheduled the visit via WhatsApp in just a few texts back and forth for the day and time I requested. I was seen on time and was brought into the room by the doctor (no waiting for the doctor for 20+ minutes). We discussed what I needed and he wrote the prescriptions for me. He suggested the best pharmacy to go to and even texted them to make sure they had what I needed in stock. The visit cost 600 pesos/$29.95 usd.
No insurance. No stress. No hassle. What a relief. I can definitely get used to this.

That’s what I love about Central America and South America, you pay for the exact service you are in need of and the doctor is actually aware of and practices excellent bedside manner as well as quality healthcare at realistic costs.
