Panteón Cinco de Diciembre

A few weeks ago while riding in an Uber Bridget and I spotted this really cool looking cemetery from the car. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before, like something straight out of a movie about super catholic Mexico. So we did some googling and decided to go check it out.

During my google search I found this ghost story about the cemetery. Around 1916 several bodies were discovered in Hildago Park. Among them was a husband and wife. The bodies were moved to Panteón Cinco de Diciembre, but somehow the wife's remains were left behind. Locals say that now you can sometimes see the wife late at night walking to the cemetery to see her husband, she wears a black dress with white circles on it. There are even stories of her occasionally taking a taxi to the cemetery. They say when she enters the taxi it smells like roses. Then as the taxi approaches the cemetery she disapears and leaves behind a stench of decay. Now that is big love. But for the record I'd be the ghost takin the taxi every night. Hildago park is a good hour walk from the cemetery. Or do they travel faster by floating?

Thanks for sharing the history and for taking such great pictures. Anytime I’m in NOLA, I always visit a cemetery.
