There are moments that look small on paper but feel enormous in your chest. This was one of those:
I officially received my Temporary Resident card.
It’s valid for one year. After that, I renew for another year. Then, I can apply for permanent residency. It’s a step-by-step process. No shortcuts. No dramatic movie montage. Just paperwork, patience, and showing up when your number is called.
But still…holding that card felt like something solid; something earned.
It represents my intention. It represents my commitment. It represents me, choosing to build a life somewhere new and being invited to do so.
I am proud. I am grateful. I am very aware that this is a privilege.
There’s something humbling about being the one asking to stay. It changes you a little. It makes you more observant; more appreciative.
One year at a time feels right.
And today, I’m celebrating this first one. - Bridget
