Zoológico de Vallarta

We went to the Puerto Vallarta Zoo! I love zoos. Bridget on the other hand is not really a fan but will go for me. She feels bad for the animals in captivity not having all the space and freedom they would have in the wild. And don't get me wrong, I do too. However due to the ignorance and selfishness of people I feel like zoos are a necessary thing. People will care more if you put the animal in front of their face, seeing in person has a much bigger impact than pictures and stories. Plus zoos do more than display animals. They rehab and care for animals that for various reasons wouldn't survive in the wild.

A super awesome thing about the Puerto Vallarta Zoo is that they are also a big cat sanctuary. Because of this we saw big cats I'd never seen in any zoo before. I don't even know if I knew white tigers were a thing prior to visiting the PV Zoo. Plus an epic bonus to being a big cat sanctuary is big kittens? Or word it be big cubs? Maybe just grande gatos since it is Mexico. Anyway you get what I'm saying. They have cubs!! And as part of your visit you can hold a cub if you'd like to! It's a lil pricey but come on, how often are you gonna get a chance to hold a freakin lion cub? So of course I did! Bridget opted out but I'm hoping she will next time because it really was awesome.

The zoo also does a cool thing where for 20 pesos ($1 US) you can get a bag of snacks that includes carrots, peanuts, corn kernels, and kibbles to feed the animals. Being able to interact with the animals like this really made the zoo experience so much more fun. ~ Nolan

Okay, while I do not like zoos and for all the reasons Nolan already explained, I have to say, getting to hand a peanut to a money was pretty freaking cool. I was very glad I got to do that. Also, Nolan was super cute with the baby grande gato. ~Bridget
