We're here and shit is getting really real now cuz it's now real. Comprende? So keys here are weird and not. Like they don't have the teeth on them, but when they do it's four sided.
Everyone you pass on the street is super friendly and will greet you, but they will also correct you if you use the wrong time of day. I said buenas dias to a guy in passing and he corrected me with buenas tardes lol. I finally asked an Uber driver what time we switch from buenas trades to buenos notches, he said 7pm.
Addresses are super weird, they are nothing like US addresses. We tried to go look at a rental this morning and majorly failed. The address we entered came up with three options to three different locations, even the real estate guy was confused and couldn't help us. So we missed that viewing and just went to lunch instead. The language barrier is there for sure, but everyone has been patient with us and we're learning as we go. It's funny cuz it's like they celebrate when Bridget speaks Spanish and says it right, but with me they just look at me like "really, is that the best you got?"
Sounds are different here in Mexico. Tropical birds are everywhere, so you always hear them. Dogs are also everywhere. Funny thing is it's not the Mexican street dogs that you'll hear barking while walking down the street, it's all the damn domestic dogs. In the early morning around 630 am on weekends you can hear church bells, I guess Mexican Catholics love their bells. On weekends there are also fireworks from random celebrations.
Trash pickup is every other day and the garbage truck comes down the street ringing a bell to let you know they are coming so you can bring your trash out. I was hoping the bell was the elote man but it was not, such a bummer.
The homes out here are made of concrete not wood like in the US so everything sounds louder. Bridget's laugh has also gotten louder to compete with the surroundings. Jk jk, it's the same.
Overall we are loving it and adapting well. -Nolan
Quick note from me...you guys, the food here is soooo good! We tried to go to a restaurant Nolan found online today but the driving apps are not understanding the Mexican addresses. Anyhow, we got dropped off somewhere completely different than where the restaurant was. No problem...we tripped onto the cutest breakfast place and had an amazing meal! All this to say we have a new section/page of the blog that is focused on local cuisine; aptly named Local Cuisine. If you are interested or want to start taking notes for where you want us to take you when you come to visit. ~Bridget
